Hey guys
ok basically. i was wondering if its safe and possable to downgrade from the new kernel 3.0 "vmlinux" and go back to around version .39 or .38, i have no idea why. i just felt more comfortable and more stable with kernel .39/38 even back to 37/36
P.S sorry i forgot add. i want to install kernel 39/38 liquorix , the LIQU kernel version. im abit new to LIQ but my friends use it and love it. id like to try it out if it works on arch linux
so i was wondering how do i go about doing this safely without breaking anything

you want to downgrade even though there are no problems
liquorice kernels can be found in the AUR. you can even install them beside your existing kernel. you will just need additional menu.lst entries.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

well i use burg. is there any difference to the entrys in burg
Additionally
is this the latest version available in the AUR?
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=51332
( out of date )
and Sorry but one last question
is there configurations i need to make like mkinitcpio or rc.conf additions besides adding the entrys to burg.cfg

Burg, grub or grub2: if you retrograde down to the kernel26 series, the respective entries will need to be updated. Burg and grub2 do it when you regenerate them; grub requires you to do it.
...why are you wanted to downgrade anyway? Linus himself said that linux 3.0 is just the 2.6.40 release. I think you're wasting your time/effort.
EDIT: This would seem to be a branding issue for you. Did you know that MRI was first called NMR?
MRI = magnetic resonance imaging
NMR = nuclear magnetic resonance
The public got frightened away from the N-word in NMR so it was renamed MRI. Same hardware, different name...or how about the PC term, "surgical strike" popularized during the first Gulf War? Surgical strike = killing/bombing. Which do you prefer?

CPU-optimized Linux-ck packages @ Repo-ck • AUR packages • Zsh and other configs

well i edited my post. theres a 3.0 http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=51332 lqx version available. i mainly just want to use lqx and give it a test run. i enjoy trying things as long as i know that theres a way to fix it if something goes wrong
so i thought it best to come here and check with you guys before attempting anything
im a total noob when it comes to Kernels in arch. in debian/ubuntu you could do it all via the package manager/headers/footers and a simple update-grub and it was there
in arch. i simply want to make sure i do the install correctly/configuring correctly, incase of issues like programs not working that are 64bit. with a 32bit kernel or something like that going wrong
example: i just noticed lqx has its own nvidia driver available. so id have to reinstall that, and i use the lib32 nvidia utils for a specific 32bit game that requires the package. so id be worried about that getting issues

yes when you use different kernels, you have to compile your video drivers to be used with that new kernel as well.

update-burg should work but if you're nervous you can do
burg-mkconfig -o /tmp/burg.cfg
Preview the output of that and if you like it, copy to /boot/burg.
