OK, I already have an update on the issue: just found this thread which started in March already and describes precisely our problem: http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.comp.fr … intel/3105 -- apparently the reporter is using Debian so it's not an Arch specific issue after all I guess.

The issue is still present here with everything fully up-to-date...
Also affects vim+emacs, though vim more often than emacs. Probably since vim runs in a terminal window, whereas emacs has its own window...
Has anyone come up with a temporary fix?

I notice the same problem when using konsole under gnome3 + nvidia driver. Even gnome-terminal has this problem occasionally.
The strange thing is If I log into KDE, everything works well.

Jonhoo,
Thanks for referring me to this post from: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=122244 as it does sound like I'm experiencing the same issue. My temporary fix was to disable KMS (i915.modeset=0) and use the Vesa driver (xf86-video-vesa) instead of Intel's. It did fix my terminal issues as well as flash issues.

Unfortunately, I'm not even using the Intel driver.. I'm using the official nVidia drivers...

Just a quick update: the bug seems to be gone now for me on linux 3.0.2-1 and xf86-video-intel 2.15.0-2.
