My thunar takes a long time to start up on it's FIRST launch. I have almost the exact same problem here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=111912, but I don't have smbnetfs. I tried uninstalling gvfs and thunar boots up normally. But the problem is, I need gvfs for logmein hamachi. Is there a way to make thunar completely avoid gvfs or something? Or does thunar need gvfs to mount things (I need my windows drive mounted).

Have you also tried daemonizing thunar at startup?
But for me it's the same.. takes about 5-10 seconds to startup after boot. When I try a second time, it starts normally.
I'll try removing gvfs tonight to see if the problem persists or not.
EDIT:
gvfs searching the network is the problem.
there is already a bug opened

Removing gvfs-smb does the trick, and I don't need it for logmeinhamatchi. No need to remove gvfs.
