[SOLVED] Kernel version

Hi All,

I updated my Arch box using pacman -Syu just recently. There was a kernel update 3.0.4-1. It installed ok and pacman said "Upgrading linux...".I rebooted my machine. Now uname -a says 3.0-ARCH as well as cat /proc/version. pacman -Qi says that kernel is 3.0.4-1.

Why uname - a does not tell the exact version? Before the update I compiled a kernel module myself. After the upgrade I thought that need to recompile it... I did not have to, it still works...

So how do I know for sure what version of the kernel I'm running...Is it right that uname -a says 3.0-ARCH, if yes, why my module still works?

have you searched the forums? There was a thread recently on this very same issue.

I did yes search, but I did not find any answers really. I'm running only Arch on this machine and this happens to me on two machines. On both machines I did recently(about a week ago) a clean install of Arch.

Hmm ok sorry guys, I did actually find an answer... So this is Arch policy so that users does not have to compile modules again after every small update. OK this is cool and answers bot of my questions.
