I got 2 WD15EARS around 15 months ago and last month, one of them started failing so I removed it from the raid array.

FWIW, my 5x WD20EARS are still working.

Hours alive: 6425, 1908, 6825, 6775, 6391 . The highest LCC is 152801.

As for EARS-EARX drives they are pretty good in terms price/GiB. If you are afraid from LCC inceasement, you can use WDIDLE3.exe and set it to "off"

1-st is 1 year old ( was untouched until 2 weeks ago )
2-nd is 2 weeks old

And for "AF - 4k sector" parted and gptdisk are fully aware of it from quite some time .. so i may say those drives are not bad at all
