Re: kde-snapshot repo

kdesupport-phonon shouldn't depend on pulseaudio, it's an optional dependency.

Hmm, I thought I already fixed it. Nevermind, it's fixed now. Thanks

Hi.
Could you please update dolphin from time to time? It is somewhat unusable in last build.
Thanks for your work!

I'll build a new snapshot next weekend when I return from vacation. If you really want a new Dolphin, feel free to clone scripts and PKGBUILDs from git repo (git://gitorious.org/kde-snapshots-repo/kde-snapshots-repo.git) and build the Dolphin yourself smile

dolphin is still borked upstream, but not as it was couple of weeks ago (selecting files/folders is somewhat working but deleting doesn't work)

On Wednesday (Sept. 7), there will also be a new Calligra pre-release, that could serve as a convenient excuse for a new kde-snapshots and kde-snapshots-extra update... :-)

Re: kde-snapshot repo

Hello everyone,

it is exactly 2 years, 6 months, 24 days and 22 hours since I announced the KDE snapshots repository for the very first time. But gone are the days when the repo was updated every single week, bringing loads of new things and features in every snapshot. As you have probably noticed from still longer and longer delays between updates, I have still less and less time to dedicate to this repository and so while compiling a new snapshot today, I decided, that it is time for me to give up, to pass this project to someone else with more time and dedication to provide regular and high quality snapshots.

It's been great two and half years for me, I've learned a lot about scripting, compiling and about KDE itself. I had the great opportunity to walk with KDE it's long journey from 4.2.63 to 4.7.41. I saw it grow and mature. I saw the dedication and work of many people behind KDE coming to users. And I always knew, that this repository has it's own contribution to the project. Every bug report you made, every feedback you provided to KDE developers made our beloved desktop environment better and better. I want to thank every single one of you - because without your support, encouragement and feedback this repo would not last that long and KDE would be little less awesome then it is.

The snapshot I just uploaded is the very last for me, but I hope it's not the last one for you. If anyone would like to continue to provide snapshots for this repository, please send me a PM/IM/email/pigeon/whatever, I'll give you maintainer-ship of the scripts git repo, manage for you to have access to FTP and I will pass on all the experience and knowledge I gained during this years.

Thank you guys!
- progdan

Re: kde-snapshot repo

Thanks for all the effort you put into this ProgDan, I enjoyed your snapshots a lot.

About the "passing on your knowledge to a new maintainer", maybe you could make it public instead?

Like for example in the form of a small step-by-step HOWTO (on the Arch wiki) of what you usually did for every snapshot release, ideally with some mention of how much effort and time each step tends to take, plus some pointers about what kind of problems used to come up at each step and how you went about fixing them.

I think this would make it much more encouraging for other users (i.e. us) to try compiling and improving your builds-scripts, than asking for someone to step up and take full maintainership responsibilities head-on.
Who knows, if some of us manage to follow your HOWTO even for future KDE snapshots, we might share our resulting builds with the rest (through this forum), and eventually new maintainership might arise naturally.

Re: kde-snapshot repo

@Zolnierz: I really have no idea - complete KDE takes about 4 to 5 hours on my Intel Core i5 @2.67GHz (4 cores) with 4GB RAM. compilation of i686 takes from 30 minutes to one hour more (when compiling in 32bit chroot on 64bit system).

@sas: that's a great idea, thanks - I'll try to make some time and write a wiki article
