idevicepair problems

Has anybody gotten the iphone working as a USB tether?

I've used idevicepair pair, but when I try to list, nothing shows up.

Done as user and as root. dhcpcd times out, and nothing connects my iPhone as a tether. If it's relevant, it's an iPhone 3gs.
