Sudden problem: no IP for ethernet

Could someone wiser tell what might be the problem in ethernet suddenly failing to get IP overnight? Worked fine last night, didn't use in the morning, when got back from work and opened laptop, no connection.

I've a VDSL2 modem and a basic DSL router. All lights burning as normal etc. I didn't touch the gear physically between last night and this morning. No amount of reboot/restart of laptop/router/modem/networkmanager has effect. Yes, I checked cables.

I can't paste outputs as I'm on cell phone, but I can't see errors in logs etc. Ethernet card and connection are detected. Dmesg on eth0 (ethernet):

bridge-eth0: up
bridge-eth0: attached
eth0: no IPv6 routers present

As said, NOTHING changed since last night. I ran updates, including kernel 2.6.38, last week but had no network problems until now.
