[SOLVED] Internet Sharing with iptables

Hello, i have a WISP(wireless internet service provider) and this provider takes registry of each of my connected devices with its own MAC adress, i have my Desktop and my PS3 connected, and my laptop with the PS3's spoofed MAC. If i want to register a new device i have to pay an extra(and big) amount of money, so im wondering:

I can share my Laptop's or Desktop's connection using iptables?

I have the router, i think that it is all i need.
Greetings.

Yes.

iptables* will provide a Layer 3 routing device between your internal hosts and your ISP so your ISP will only be able to see the MAC address of the host running iptables and acting as the router.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Internet_Share

* Technically the kernel is doing the routing, iptables is just controlling what the kernel allows in/out.

Re: [SOLVED] Internet Sharing with iptables

@ fukawi2 Thanks for the info, I'll try and see what the best option to share my network.

Edit: I think I have to use the second form (having in mind the MAC adress restriction), there is a way of doing this:

Internet                                               | pc2 |
------------->| pc1 |---------->| router |------>---<
                                                       | pc3 | .. etc.

? I don't have to much experience on Networks, sorry for my noobness.
Greetings.

Re: [SOLVED] Internet Sharing with iptables

Doesn't matter whether the MAC is spoofed, because only your pc1 will see the MAC address of your laptop. The layout you want is:

Internet -> router -> pc1 -> sharing to pc2 & pc3

It will be pc1 which is sharing to pc2 & pc3. The router will be sharing to pc1.

Ok, i am understanding it now, but i have another question: Is necessary to have two network cards to share the connection? Because my Desktop(an old one) and my laptop have a network card(eth0) and a wireless card(wlan0) each. All examples of internet sharing that i found are using two network cards sad

No, it is not *required*, but it is much simpler, especially if you're not familiar with what you are trying to setup...

Re: [SOLVED] Internet Sharing with iptables

Well thanks for the data, I'll see if I have any additional network card here, if not, I'll have to familiarize myself with the network stuff and try with the wireless cards.
Greetings
