Proxy settings

I am now in an institute which uses WPA2 encrypted wireless. When I open WICD to set the password the name of the network doesn't show up. It just says <hidden>. Where do I set the ESSID? After I have entered the password, it just says "Bad Password". The people at the institute have also given me some proxy to use, but how do I choose that? When I go to Chrome's settings it tells me that the feature isn't supported for my desktop environment, which is none. I just run plain openbox. What do I do?

Re: Proxy settings

You don't really need to set the ESSID. I am not sure what you mean. Do you see more than one <hidden> ESSIDs? If so, you are probably choosing the wrong one. When you try to connect to a hidden ESSID, all you need to provide is the password for that network.

I just set my proxy using environment variables http_proxy and https_proxy in my .bashrc

export http_proxy="http://username:password@proxyserver.com:portNum/
export https_proxy="https://username:password@proxyserver.com:portNum/

Re: Proxy settings

Thanks guys. I'll try this out when I go on monday and let you know. Funny thing is, now I can't even connect via wired connection. Searching around for solutions.

Re: Proxy settings

I have now been able to connect to the wired connection with proxy settings added to my bashrc. However, I am still not able to connect to the wireless connection. When I open wicd, the name of ESSID of the connection is set to <hidden>. I ask it to search for hidden networks after providing the name of the ESSID, and then when I click connect, it stalls at verifying password and then conks out. Why is this happening? I've checked the password to make sure it's correct.

Better to start a new thread for this, since it's nothing to do with the topic of this thread ("Proxy settings").
