Computer locking up when transferring ~7 GB file over network.

I have an Asus 1201n that completely locks up when I try downloading ~7GB iso files over the local network.  This happens every time, without fail, at various stages of the download over various protocols.  I've seen it lock with the download as low as 10%, and as high as 68%, using scp, sftp, and http.  I've also tried using these protocols with and without Xorg running (just in case).  I'm about to test transfers with wicd instead of networkmanager, but the main reason I'm posting is to find out if this is a known issue, because it's getting to be very irritating.  I can't even use Alt-PrtSc REISUB to reboot!

PS - Did anyone catch the mid-season finale of Doctor Who? Killer ending! big_smile

Edit: Just got back from testing wicd instead of networkmanager. Still locking up.  Any ideas?

Edit 2: FYI: I'm using wired internet, and loading this page with firefox just did the same thing.  Possibly related?

My guess is that it's a problem in the driver for the NIC. I'd figure out which driver was in use and google around for bug reports.

If it happens in a tty (so without xorg), is there any output that indicates a kernel oops or panic? And if so, could you post the accompanying trace dump? (A readable photo would work)

Re: Computer locking up when transferring ~7 GB file over network.

You know what. That is exactly my observation. I had similar problems when ssh'ing into my remote machine. I thought ssh and/or lftp is the problem. But two days ago I instructed my parents to do a local file transfer ... and guess what: it failed.

It only happens with large file transfers, e.g. above 2 GB. An Archlinux download of 600 MB passed without a problem.

I also look for some logs, but did not find one.

Martin
