My issue is similiar to the one from this thread:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=135310
I get this output everytime i do a pacman -Syu
sudo pacman -Syu
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/core.db: Unrecognized archive format
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/extra.db: Unrecognized archive format
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/community.db: Unrecognized archive format
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/multilib.db: Unrecognized archive format
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/core.db: Unrecognized archive format
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/extra.db: Unrecognized archive format
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/community.db: Unrecognized archive format
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/sync/multilib.db: Unrecognized archive format
Now, i CAN get the update to work by changing mirrors and doing an -Syy.
Other times i have to rm -R /var/lib/pacman/sync...then Syy, then -Syu in order to get the update to work.
This started happening just recently, i've gone the last few months using arch without having to do this every time.
To my question, is this working as intended? Or is there another issue that i have just yet to find in my research?

Well i thought i had it fixed, however, it seems to be a persistant problem.
i swapped mirrors to the highest rated mirror on the mirrorlist and the problem did not repeat itself right away, however when i attempted to
install wine pacman gave me a download library error about half way through. Then the "unrecognized archive format" error started occuring again.
As an update module-init-tools is not installed, kmod seems to be working just fine, should i try re-installing kmod?
Anyone have any ideas?
