Screen corruption using xf86-video-ati on Vaio (KMS related maybe)

Hello dear archers,
I'm having some problems on my Sony Vaio sve1712z1e: as you can see into the picture, the display is like splitted in 2 and translated to the right.

imag0081uo.jpg

I suppose it's a problem related to the kernel modesetting / framebuffer because I tried to purge the radeon display driver installation and the same thing happened. The only way I found to show the CLI correctly it's by adding "nomodeset" into the kernel line at boot (anyways radeon drivers need kms enabled). I can't install catalyst drivers due to some invalid VBIOS error. Another piece of info: i tried to connect an external display to my laptop and the image on it is shown correctly, can't say the same about the internal display that keeps on flickering. I tried to recompile libdrm disabling intel, nouveau and so on but it was yet another unsuccessful attempt.

Here's my dmesg | grep drm log:

Re: Screen corruption using xf86-video-ati on Vaio (KMS related maybe)

Open source (xf86-video-ati) support for the 7xxx series of Radeons is still a mess:

At this time if I was an owner of one I'd consider the proprietary driver:

@headcase i'm not able to install catalyst drivers due to this: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=152629
@t0m5k1 it's kdm with Branding-starboard-arch-white theme

i tried a some live distros like linux mint and everything looks fine. Meh

I'have the same problem.

I'have verified that the problem is with kernel 3.6.10 and later. With kernel 3.6.9 all works
