It seems like Linux is unable to handle dynamic IPs, they must be static. I would like to file a bug/feature request, but I am unsure of the correct place. Is this a CUPS issue, or something broader/more specific than that?
Thanks, ~UnsolvedCypher

What exactly is the issue? Sounds like your printer has different IP address each time it connects (which is a DHCP setup issue), or you can just set a DNS for it and use that in CUPS. Or just use Zeroconf/Avahi. But you would need to tell more about your setup and the problem...

Thank you for the response. Yes, the printer does have a different IP address each time it connects, and that is a DHCP issue. I have set it to have a static IP, but I am concerned about users that cannot do this because they cannot control their router. Avahi seems like the right solution, so I think that solves the problem.
Thank you!

Apple also created a protocol called Bonjour.
I may have to CONSOLE you about your usage of ridiculously easy graphical interfaces...

Yup, Bonjour is Apple's implementation of Zeroconf. On Linux it's implemented by Avahi.

So how do I make them work together? I have started cupsd & avahi-daemon. I'm still seeing an IP on the add printer page on :631
