Davinci Resolve MP4 format support in Studio?

Hello,

I have been browsing forums to get my non-studio copy of Davinci Resolve up and running on my Arch install. I read through a couple of forums which I will link for reference to get audio and video working.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/DaVinci_Resolve
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=257318
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=270745

My only gripe is that, even though things do work (which I am happy about haha), it's not convenient, at least for me.

I read on the first forum I linked under the Troubleshooting section where it talked about the basic version of DR not having support for mp4 formats, which led me to convert my video using ffmpeg.

I am curious if someone has the studio version and can confirm if this is the case, if mp4 does playback properly. I have been wanting to get the studio version for the added features, but I wanted to verify if what I have read is true.

I apologize if you have read this and can't answer, but I appreciate you reading. Have a great day!

Re: Davinci Resolve MP4 format support in Studio?

I am replying to my own question because I did a bit more research and confirmed that the mp4 format does work with the studio version of resolve. I also went down a rabbit-hole regarding audio and video codecs and decided not to use mp4 and record in mkv. As of Davinci Resolve 17, support was added for mkv editing. I would remux to mov afterwards but where I take my audio and process it after the fact, I didn't see a point. Eventually, I will get a secondary system with beefy specs to record dnxhd lossless video. I hope that I could answer this for anyone who wanted help. Yes, you can get the studio version for mp4 support. However, if you are doing that, you might as well record with less lossy compression codecs and go for it.
