I am trying to load Tripwire on my servers and I can't get past the first step.
I run /usr/share/tripwire/twinstall.sh and enter in a password. Then it just hangs on Generating key (this may take several minutes). Is there anything that I need to install to make this work? I ran a system upgrade before just to make sure.
Also, I ran this on a Ubuntu box to just for kicks and it worked. Any ideas? This one's really bugging me.

You sure it hangs?
Just a hunch:
The 'several minutes' may be hours depending on your system size,
since it probably hashes the system in some way

Thats what I thought, so I let it run for about 8 hours. Nothing. I have been trying Aide instead and I like it so far, but at some point I would like to give Tripwire a go.

Try building the package separately

Please, don't kick me for this and don't be angry with me for digging up such an old thread. The thead's creation date might be old but the same problem still happened to me. Because tripwire is such a good IDS application I would like to solve this issue.
I built it from source and when running ./configure before compiling, I have added "-fno-strict-aliasing" to the CFLAGS in my environment. This will solve the issue and keys will be generated.
CFLAGS="-march=native -O3 -pipe -fno-strict-aliasing" ./configure && make
Maybe I will drum up a proper archlinux configuration file one day.
Hope this will help anyone

Thanks for the solution. Another way is to create/edit the wiki page and explain the solution. Forum threads seem to get lost after a while. wiki is always easily available.
But closing now to avoid further necro-bumping.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !
