SSH fails but Putty works [SOLVED]

I am unable to ssh to any system outside my network. Also i am able to ssh into my system only from inside the network.

When i try to ssh, it just hangs for a while then gets a time out issue. It does prompt me fore a password but after that nothing.

I tried reinstalling opnessh but that didnt work. I also tried deleting my .ssh profile. I have not edited anything from the original client configuration.

However Putty works just fine to the same host with the same user.

Re: SSH fails but Putty works [SOLVED]

What's your network setup? Is your box even accessible from outside your network? (ie, can you ping it externally?)

Re: SSH fails but Putty works [SOLVED]

This is on my home network. Yes i can access it externally, since when i try to log in from remote it also gets as far as asking my password then expereinces much of the same.

Also i have portforwarding for Deluge and i know thats working.

I have a belkin wireless router running DHCP connected to a cable modem.

Re: SSH fails but Putty works [SOLVED]

Ok and just as a test, i brought my laptop to work and tried to ssh into a local server on a different sub-net. That worked fine. Also im able to ssh outside of my network here at work to the same external address that i can not connect to from home.

This is strange...could it really by my ISP?
(only reason i bring this up is because i have comcast...)

even that however doesn't exactly explain it since i can use putty... if any one has any ideas please don't hesitate to share.

OK, so it gets to the password stage, then you get a "Time out" error? neutral

Time outs usually occur when the connection can not be made in the first place (ie, a firewall is blocking it). If the connection is made then reset, I would expect a "connection reset" error or something similar.

Re: SSH fails but Putty works [SOLVED]

BlackNight, I think you might be right since i was able to use filiezilla, putty, and my brothers OSX but i cant use ssh or gftp (since it passes ssh to the command line).

Re: SSH fails but Putty works [SOLVED]

Ok well it seems to be an issue with only my system. I have another system running arch on my home network and it is able to ssh fine. The only difference is that it is hardwired and im running over wireless. Also all the other times it was working was over ehternet as well. Im going to investiagate this and try another wireless card to see if that has an effect.

Re: SSH fails but Putty works [SOLVED]

Ok so it seems that switching to a different wireless card/ interface did the trick... I wonder if it is a bug with the new broadcom drivers?

Re: SSH fails but Putty works [SOLVED]

Ok so seems like this is a known bug over on launchpad and the debian forums. I asked the AUR package maintainer to update the PKGBUILD with the patches to fix it. Marking as solved
