[SOLVED]No wired network ?!?!?

Hi guys, I used to have a wireless network up and running, but there was some changes and some moving, and now I'm able to connect to my local network using a cable, which I obviously prefer.

The problem is that, I'm not connecting to the network, I mean, I can't ping the router, and obviously no internet....

Here are my configs, I can't find anything wrong with them...

/etc/rc.conf

...
HOSTNAME="Feio"
eth1="eth1 192.168.1.155 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255"
INTERFACES=(eth1)
gateway="default gw 192.168.1.1"
ROUTES=(gateway)
...

/etc/resolv.conf

nameserver 112.113.164.59
nameserver 112.113.164.58
nameserver 112.113.164.51
nameserver 112.113.164.50
search netrabo.com

/etc/hosts

127.0.0.1    Feio.domain.org    localhost.localdomain    localhost Feio

Hope you can help...

P.S. I did use hwdetect to see which kernel module to load (forcedeth), which I did, I also added it to the rc.conf's module list

Re: [SOLVED]No wired network ?!?!?

Are you sure it's eth1? Is that what ifconfig -a shows you? What's in dmesg when the module is loaded?

Re: [SOLVED]No wired network ?!?!?

yah I'm very sure. I have eth0 and eth1. I disabled eth0 to ensure there was no confusion.

Re: [SOLVED]No wired network ?!?!?

What's the output from `ifconfig` and `ifconfig -a`

Also, if you can install the ethtool package, the output from `ethtool eth0` and `ethtool eth1`

Re: [SOLVED]No wired network ?!?!?

I asked about dmesg earlier. Also, the output of route could be useful.

Re: [SOLVED]No wired network ?!?!?

"eth1: no link during initialization" is the relevant error here. You should google it for more info.

In the meanwhile, is there some reason why you can't use eth0? Based on the output above, it seems to be OK.

no reason. actually I was using eth0 before trying eth1. the problem was exactly the same.

Re: [SOLVED]No wired network ?!?!?

so today I decided to use DHCP instead:

rc.conf

eth0="dhcp"
eth1="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(eth0 eth1)

gateway="default gw 192.168.1.1"
ROUTES=(!gateway)

I tested with both interfaces, and it always times out.

Re: [SOLVED]No wired network ?!?!?

bump..

I installed the ethtool pkg, and decided to post here the output, maybe it'll help... I'm also posting dmesg, because as I said on my previous post I also activated eth0, and configured both interfaces to use dhcp, and that changes things a bit..

Re: [SOLVED]No wired network ?!?!?

I just installed wicd and tried to connect using it, the network still times out...  I'm thinking maybe it's something to do with the driver?!? the interfaces appear with ifconfig but I can't find a reason for it not to work...

Re: [SOLVED]No wired network ?!?!?

1) you got a wiki.
2) learn how to use the manual.
3) ifconfig and iwconfig would do everything you need.

Hope (and glad) if I could help.

If people do not believe that mathematics is simple, it is only because they do not realize how complicated life is.

Re: [SOLVED]No wired network ?!?!?

i know that... i've read all that like a zillion times... i'm not new to arch even less to linux... and finding this BUG so abnormal is what's driving me crazy... it simply has no reason to exist...

btw, I'm sorry if i was childish before, which i believe i was, but the truth is that was what i was feeling, everybody thinks this is  just a rookie mistake, and it might be, but i've done everything there is to do..

as i said before i've decided to go back to gentoo, and i wont change that, but i will however use arch on my other 3 boxes, which are running fine btw, with wireless and wired static ip configurations...

thanks anyway...

Let's see.  Apart from misconfiguration on some level, lack of a dhcp server, being out of dhcp addresses in the dhcp pool, a bad nic on the router/switch you are using, a bad ethernet cable (or using cat3 vs cat5 etc..), and a bad nic on the computer, I'm really not sure.  You are clearly getting online on some computer, so why don't you download and install the ethtool package as requested previously in this thread?  It seems you are asking for help but not helping yourself.  Not to mention your clearly fucking ridiculous bumps and replies to your own topic.

archlinux - please read this and this — twice — then ask questions.

ridiculous is to answer a thread without reading it first.
