How do you know your speed is different? Can you quantify the difference?

Re: net is slow on my arch linux compared to that in xp`

Actually download speed with xp is around 30 kbps and in arch its around 22 kbps which is ok ..But the more severe problem is browsing experience ..Sites take a lot time to load ..I have tried with 2 browsers firefox & ephiphany (Even google takes a lot time to open)..In xp the same sites take much less time ..

Is this problem from a livecd too, or just from installed arch ?

Re: net is slow on my arch linux compared to that in xp`

Check your DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf

If you have more than one server listed, and one of them isn't responding then that could be causing delays for you, although that wouldn't affect the actual download speed, just the time it takes to resolve (which would directly impact your perceived browsing speed)

#!/bin/bash

for SERVER in $(grep '^nameserver' /etc/resolv.conf | awk '{ print $2 }') ; do
   dig google.com.au @$SERVER
   if [ $? -ne 0 ] ; then
      echo "ERROR WITH SERVER $SERVER"
   fi
done

EDIT: You'll need to install the 'dnsutils' package before running the above script smile
