FAILED LOGIN error

Preamble: the title isn't caps-lock(ed) for screaming, it's caps-lock(ed) because is how the error message appears on my screen.

I've removed both GDM and SLiM, I'm logging in from shell, but it keeps failing:

Oct 8 18:03:37 localhost login[536]: FAILED LOGIN (1) on '/dev/tty1' FOR 'buntolo', Authentication failure
Oct 8 18:03:41 localhost login[536]: pam_unix(login:session): session opened for user root by LOGIN(uid=0)
Oct 8 18:03:41 localhost login[619]: ROOT LOGIN on '/dev/tty1'

From internet the only results I've found seeming regard my problem are these two, but I don't know how to go on:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-6531397.html
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=143030

Furthermore the login problem, using "ip link show" I see only "lo", where in the world "eth0" has gone?
I can't connect...

I don't know if an upgrade messed up something, this is the installed/removed/upgraded list from /var/log/pacman:

I think I have messed up something about systemd as I get:

$ systemctl status dbus.service
Failed to get D-Bus connection: No connection to service manager.

I've already set init=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd after kernel line as suggested by both pacman and the wiki.

Re: FAILED LOGIN error

It still show up in "lspci", simply it's not available under "ifconfig" or "ip link".

Re: FAILED LOGIN error

Read this. You may need to chroot with a LiveCD to get a working environment from which you can download and install what is necessary.

Re: FAILED LOGIN error

I've launched pacman -Syy && pacman -Su from crunchbang64 live, then I've booted arch with init=/usr/lib/systemd/systemd at the end of kernel line but then a loop start.

I see a lot of failures and problems like:

[1159:226839] systemd[1]: Failed to open /dev/autofs: No such file or directory

Re: FAILED LOGIN error

Perhapse I'm near to solve everything.

I've managed to get "eth0" back and set its ip address and gatway.
I can ping 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS) but I can't synchronize (and install as well) pacman.
NOTE: using chroot from crunchbang live I hadn't any problem at all with pacman, so it's not a mirrorlist problem and anyway I'm using also ftp.archlinux.org as mirror so it's not a mirrorlist problem.
