Make error trying to install Linksys Ralink RT3572 driver[SOLVED]

Hello anyone,

I just recently installed arch.
I've got the latest version(01.14.13) of the download from the archpage.
Ive got xfce4 working, and my wired connection is fine.
I have an AE1000 Linksys card.
when i typed "wifi-menu" on the LIVECD i think i remember it working, but i skipped that because i had a wired connection.
I'm now trying to setup wifi and when i type "wifi-menu" i get the error:

:: Scanning for networks                                                 [ BUSY ]
/usr/lib/network/8021x: line 63: wpa_supplicant: command not found [FAILED]
 > No networks found

I've followed the instructions on this page:
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 61#p900261

I couldn't figure out what he meant by step 5 so i skipped it.

And when i try to make and make install i get this error:

make -C tools
make[1]: Entering directory `/home/plynch/Downloads/2011_0427_RT3572_Linux_STA_v2.5.0.0.DPO/tools'

make: *** /lib/modules/3.6.11-1-ARCH/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
make: *** [LINUX] Error 2

any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Did you follow the instructions from the first error message?

The post you are referncing is nearly 12 months old; have you checked that the driver is not included in one of Arch's current kernels? If it worked in the live environment, then I doubt you will need to compile from source; and even if you did need to install it, you should check the AUR.

I'm not sure if you need to build your own driver.  If you think you do, you should first check the repos and the  AUR.  But the error you got from wifi-menu is because wpa_supplicant isn't installed.  Install it.  If it worked in the live environment, it will work in your installed system if you install the same packages: wireless_tools and wpa_supplicant.

EDIT: beaten to it ... and to every point.  It sounds like there is an echo in here.

I installed wpa_supplicant, and now its working.
I tried installing it before, but it wasn't working because i was typing wpa-supplicant instead.....
So my bad.
Thanks guys.

No problem.  Please mark the thread as solved by editing your first post where you can prepend "[SOLVED]" to the title.
