[SOLVED] Wifi connection drops

Hi!
I have an asus nv56 with a Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 2230 (rev c4) wifi card, my kernel version is the  3.8.7-1 and I use Gnome with network manager.
I have a problem: I'm able to connect  to a wifi network but every 1-2 mins the connection drops.
A dmesg says:

Re: [SOLVED] Wifi connection drops

Do you think that I have to install ipw2100-fw and/or ipw2200-fw package?

Re: [SOLVED] Wifi connection drops

The driver for Intel centrino Wirless-N cards is iwlwifi, I cannot see how ipw2100/2200 could help you.

Do you live in a wifi-rich area? In other words, what is the output of

sudo iw dev wlan0 scan

(change wlan0 if it's not the name of your wifi card).

Re: [SOLVED] Wifi connection drops

First of all thanks for the reply.
I don't have iwlwifi, but linux-firmware, I think it's ok, I'm right?
Only tomorrow I can try your advice, now I have no wifi signal around me.
I'll keep you update.

Re: [SOLVED] Wifi connection drops

I had a similar problem with an Atheros WIFI card (driver ath5k).

2 weeks ago I discovered that my WIFI router was set to channel 6 (the same as 7 other APs in range). Switching the router to another channel that's not used by other APs solved the problems for me.
In my environment, channel 3 proved to be the best choice, as all the other APs just used channels 1, 6 and 11.

Re: [SOLVED] Wifi connection drops

Hi all,
I haven't a solution yet.
This, as you can guess, is a big issue for me.
I tried to connect to another wpa network and I wasn't able to get something working, even if the kernel didn't return that massages.
With other network (also wpa) I haven't problem and all works fine.
Please let me know if I can provide you additional information (log, hd information, configurations, etc).
Without wifi connection I have to switch to another distro and I don't want!!!
Thanks a lot.

Re: [SOLVED] Wifi connection drops

Have you had a look at kernel module parameters for your wifi driver? Maybe there is some option you need to set when loading modules...

Re: [SOLVED] Wifi connection drops

I tried to disable 11n in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf with:
options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1
but nothing changes.

Re: [SOLVED] Wifi connection drops

I have news: a kernel developer said to me that it isn't a bug, but my problem.
He thinks that I'm probably running two instances of wpa_supplicant or something equally strange.
He saids this because dmesg returns:
[ 1756.822019] wlp3s0: deauthenticating from 74:ea:3a:cd:28:42 by local choice (reason=3)

I haven't idea about this strange situation...does anyone have some tips to how understande what is happening?

To show all installed unit files use 'systemctl list-unit-files'.

in this post https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=146052 an user says has the same problem and he says that it's due to a double daemons, in particular "network" (that have to be disabled) and "networkmanager" that have to be untouched.
What do you think about?

Re: [SOLVED] Wifi connection drops

If you're using NetworkManager, try disabling net-auto-wired and net-auto-wireless...

Re: [SOLVED] Wifi connection drops

I solved all my problems.
I had more of one service that tried to manage the wifi.
I solved with:

systemctl disable NetworkManager-wait-online.service
systemctl disable net-auto-wired.service
systemctl disable net-auto-wireless.service

Thanks!
