[SOLVED] "Almost" /home: NFS share from freenas server shutdown error

Hello everybody,

I have a problem I am running arch with lxdm xfce netctl with wicd as the network manager. When I shutdown from within xfce. the system stalls and spits out errors. I do not know how to record these. the errors have occurred after the latest systems and kernel update.

PS. its stays in a CPU soft lock

Oh, Yes it complains that it cannot unmount /home which is served via a nfsv3 server. It complains of the mount being stale. then goes through an endless loop spitting out names of nfs related modules and memory addresses.

Any help on how exactly to log this, and procede with troubleshooting would be excellent.

Thanks

the actual errors would be helpful in diagnosing the problem. Check your dmesg and/or xorg logs to see if there is anythin relevant in there.

Re: [SOLVED] "Almost" /home: NFS share from freenas server shutdown error

Well, that is the heart of my problem. No errors are logged. The system simply enters an endless loop. everything is error free in the logs. I get screen output as follows...

[3466.453447] paid: 1, comm: systemd-shutdow Tainted: G. D W 3.9.2-1-ARCH ...

The rest appears as gibberish and I have no idea how to capture it.

However, any help about logging and sharing this info would be greatly appreciated.

In the end maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree and the system is completely broken until unknown components are fixed.

Here is my journalctl output from a shutdown using "xfce4-session-logout". simply using "shutdown -h now" works perfectly fine.

Re: [SOLVED] "Almost" /home: NFS share from freenas server shutdown error

Good Morning,

I was able to find a work around. As the systemd journal indicates, the network is brought down before the NFS mounts ae unmounted. I am not sure if this is a bug. Any help to determine the cause for a decent bug report would be greatly appreciated. However, I switched to networkmanager, and everything works well. In conclusion, on my setup, arch core + xfce + NFS mounted /home, wicd is not a wise choice for a stable environment at the moment. However, it probably will get fixed with proper bug reports.

Regards
