I have problems running lotus domino smtp service. Service tries to bind to port 25 with suid helper app.
But I get an error, probably permission to bind to lower ports. No other app is holding this port.
Is there anything new in latest kernel/configuration, cause in a month old install it works normally?

POP3 Server: Listener failure: 'bindsock' is missing, not executable, not owned by root, not setuid root or user needs net_privaddr privilege.
bindsock is not missing, is executable, is owned by root and has setuid flag

Is that the error message? Please use code tags and include context (ie, the commands you ran to get that outout).
The error says "POP3 Server" - why would you expect that to be listening on port 25?

The problem is in 3.12.* kernel. It seems that it does not allow setuid properly. I downgraded to 3.11.6 and now it works properly. I took me fair amount of time for this.

I cant find where is the difference in kernels. With self compiled 3.11.6 application works, with lts kernel 3.10.20 it does not work, with ck-kernel it does not work. With self compiles lts kernel with same config like 3.11.6 it does not work. Where is the catch?

Hi there,
have exactly the same problem: compiled a fresh 3.12.1, but after rebooting our company server could not start the smtp server. Rebooted into old 3.7.5 everything was fine. Error was
ERROR: bindsock' helper application is missing, not executable, not setuid root, or no sticky bit set
SMTP Server: Listener failure: 'bindsock' is missing, not executable, not owned by root, not setuid root or user needs net_privaddr privilege.
Is there a new feature in 3.12.1 I have to enable / disable for bindsock ?!?
Maybe I should go through make oldconfig step by step and look for it.
Maybe somebody has an idea.
Have fun

bindsock appears to be a Domino specific tool; have you read through this thread?

It is not a problem of missconfiguration. Something is different in kernels. I recompiled different versions of kernels with same .config and with 3.11.3 and 3.11.6 it works, with 3.10.20 lts, 3.12.*, 3.12.*-ck it does not. I just boot with different kernel and with some it works and with some it doesnt. Maybe is something in default options of mounting partitions (tried ext3 and xfs), or something about setuid permissions. But it is a kernel issue.
Bindsock is only a helper app for binding tcp port.

I am using Ubuntu 13.10 and experiencing the same from some update.
Before 3.11.0.13, the Domino SMTP service works fine.
After 3.11.0.14, the Domino SMTP service fails with bindsock error.

Ubuntu team has fixed the same problem in kernel.
http://www-10.lotus.com/ldd/ndseforum.n … 33006AC7A3
I believe that it will be available in other distributions including arch linux.
P.S.
I am using Domino on Ubuntu Server and I am using arch linux as a client.

Only if it get pushed upstream and accepted; Arch aims to apply minimal patches to upstream sources.
