spoke too soon i guess, kwin started going back to it's 50+% cpu usage out of the blue. cleared .local/.config/.cache, cleared anything about sessions in /tmp and ~, nothing. back to lxde while I try again.

Polkit is asking everytime I boot for my root password. Is anyone also facing this issue? An idea why?
That's Baloo trying to raise the inotify limit. You're indexing more folders than your current limit allows.

No, you're not alone.

I updated framework and plasma to latest updates but can't figure out how to view the new plasma dashboard? (or even old plasma dashboard)
I have tried setting 'Show the dashboard' in Pager's "Selecting current desktop" setting' and also setting it on Window edge thingy, but no luck. I guess I am missing some package, any ideas on which one?

Thank you @Xabre & @arojas, you are awesome!

By "new" dashboard, I presume you mean new dashboard-like menu. Select it as an alternative to standard menu.
http://www.dodaj.rs/t/M/4V/u6Vxohe/menu.jpgThe "old" dasboard is still on Ctrl+F12 by default.
Ah, thanks. They mentioned this as ' dashboard' in the blog posts that I read, so I assumed it was replacing the old one, found it now.
The old one is still not working from pager, but I don't use it anyway so will figure that out later.

How can i remove previously indexed files?
I had baloo indexing every folder, but then i realized i could ignore steam folders. So i added the steam folder to baloo blacklist; but in dolphin "videos" and "audio files" i can still see e.g. dota2 files.

Final and better solution for wrong cursor theme on plasma background: create ~/.icons/default/index.theme with inside:
[Icon Theme] Inherits=breeze_cursors
Then issue a
ln -s /usr/share/icons/breeze_cursors/cursors ~/.icons/default/cursors
Previous workaround worked but /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme may be overwritten when libxcursor get updated.
EDIT: i've added a note to the plasma wiki page
I'm also pleased to report that this fixed an inconsistency for me in Plasma 5.4. Certain applications would change from the Breeze cursor theme to Adwaita when you hovered over the title bar of the window. I applied the fix above and the result was instantaneous, I didn't even need to reboot.

turning off compositing has vastly improved kwin performance for me on old nvida 340xx but that's a sucky solution
[edit]
ok i looked more into the compositing issue, and it turned out i had a conflict with nvidia driver 304/340xx in one of the packages. i removed/reinstalled only the 340xx packages and voila! no more issues with kwin/plasma other than slight hiccups now and then. so far so good on compositing too.
i also managed to change the network monitor rate to 0.5s by rebuilding plasma-workspace
file changed:
plasma-workspace/src/plasma-workspace-5.4.0/applets/systemmonitor/common/contents/ui/Applet.qml
line 84 changed interval to 500 (ms)
sadly this affects cpu/ram/network and not just network but i can live with it. they really should make it an option on the panel considering it's just one variable.
but kde/plasma5 is working good [for now] so i'm happy

QML is JavaScript. There's no need to rebuild, you can just edit the installed file.

^^ good to know
well i can now set each monitor at different refresh rate

What is the solution for the wayland crash after started "startplasmacompositor"?
I have found the OOM solution in AUR, but now I cannot find it. Could someone link it here?
thanks.

WTF ??? The "Folder view" plasmoid tries to open folders with Gwenview instead of Dolphin ??
Edit : OK, it was a bad configuration. Which is weird because I did not change it...

This seems to happen when dolphin is upgraded from the kde4 to kf5 version - it appears as a different program for the system, so because dolphin4 is removed, it is removed as the default association for opening folders. So the next program on the list ends up being default. For me it was Filelight. And dolphin5 is added to the end of the list, just like any new program that has an association with a file format.
Rather silly, but I don't think there is a better way to do it.

A quick question. As I am looking to use more and more activities, I would like to know whether it is possible to set differents favorites for the dashboard launcher according to activities?
For example, when I am at home, I would like to be able to launch Steam, Spotify, ... And when on work IntelliJIDEA, and so on.
Also, is it possible to "pause" some applications depending on activities? For example, I would like to stop KTorrent when on "light bandwith activity" and on the contrary to resume Skype when at home.

do i need to do anything special to have usb/external disks mount with rw user privileges? in kde4 it worked out of the box, and yesterday I had to manually mount a drive for it to work

IMO it's impossible with new Baloo. Old one has baloo_file_cleaner but there isn't such utility now. I cannot find third party solution, too.

@toxygen works fine here, kf5 group, particularly solid, installed? any error messages?
Online
Plasmashell is using 80% of one of my cores in "idle". Little bit crazy. Could someone tell me, if this is a bug or could someone help me to reduce the CPU usage?
Edit: Also Plasma takes like 100 years to shutdown since 5.4. (Though I don't care that much about that. The CPU issue is more important.)

I managed to get it working (mostly) by reinstalling polkit, for some reason i cant create folders directly on an external drive with dolphin though (no option when right click -> new). Moving folders to the drive, deleting and copying files works however.

It takes about as long as 5.3 for me, with the difference that 5.3 crashed, reloaded, then logged out. 5.4 just sits there doing nothing on a black screen.

new day, new issue
i dont have the "create new -> folder|file|etc" in dolphin service menu
one thread said "this has been asked multiple times please search" and pointed to
this as a solution. however
Workarounds:
- Install libkonq-frameworks-git
- Install kdebase-lib, and run 'sudo ln -s /usr/share/kde4/servicetypes/konqpopupmenuplugin.desktop /usr/share/kservicetypes5/'
1. libkonq-frameworks-git wont install on vanilla kde withouth having to pull dolphin-git and then baloo-git and i might as well run kde-unstable or kde-testing at that point no? (should i be running either one of those two instead?)
2. kdebase-lib is installed, and the link they ask to create would overwrite an already existing konqpopupmenuplugin.desktop file :
/usr/share/kservicetypes5/konqpopupmenuplugin.desktop is owned by dolphin 15.08.0-2
3. the "please search" found nothing but the above post
so what now?
