(AUR)thermald and official repo?

Hey there,

from windows I know a feature which automatically changes the "cooling mode" to e.g. passive (when on battery) or active (when on AC). As far as I could "google" it seems like thermald is the linux version of that.

Right now only an outdated version is available in the AUR and I guess I have to live with that. How ever, what happens if I install (aur)thermald and it suddenly becomes available in the official repo or even comes out-of-the-arch-box with a future update?
Will this conflict ? Will I get a notification ? Will I easily notice it ?

Thanks ! smile

If the new package has the same name or provides thermald, it will replace your current thermald.
What do you mean by outdated? There even is a git version https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/thermald-git/

Re: (AUR)thermald and official repo?

While temperature regulation is a hardware issue, the question here is only about packaging, so this isn't really kernel & hardware question.

Re: (AUR)thermald and official repo?

Oh okay thanks and sorry for posting into the wrong section. Basically I am save installing thermald because it is the only thermald package (besides the git package) and if thermald ever makes it to official then it will be this one that gets moved there (which would cause in an automatic dedection/update process of pacaur/pacman).

I will make a new topic, dedicated to thermald, and ask if it is any good and how to configure it.. as I couldn't really find anything yet hmm
