(EE) Screen 0 deleted because of no matching config section.

Hello,

I am unable to start KDE as whenever I attempt to start it with SDDM, X throws the exception in the title. Though there does not seem to be much information on the issue, is there another configuration file this looks at? As I am pretty sure I've made the "Screen 0" config section in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file.

Re: (EE) Screen 0 deleted because of no matching config section.

Does it work without an xorg.conf?

No, it didn't "fix" anything. It just shifted the brokeness one space to the right. - jasonwryan

Re: (EE) Screen 0 deleted because of no matching config section.

I am specifying the xorg.conf so my Nvidia GPU actually gets used and am trying to use the Nvidia Optimus approach. Anyway, it seems the screen still does not come on even without defining the xorg.conf file, here is the log for it:

Re: (EE) Screen 0 deleted because of no matching config section.

Check nvidia wiki page, nividia-xconfig is no longer needed and can mess up things.

Your system has 2 videocards, an integrated Intel one and an nvidia card.
Currently the intel card appears to be the default one,and your processor seems to come from the skylake family.
Skylake is known to often need specific kernel parameters to make things work.

forget sddm login manager for now, boot to console, use xinitrc /startx method until you got things working.

is xf86-video-intel installed, have you blacklisted nouveau kernelmodule ?
Are you aiming for a bumblebee / optirun setup ?

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

I have switched to a bumblebee setup for now and works okay. Though I'd really like it if everything were simply to be ran from my NVidia GPU as I dislike having to go through and specify which applications I want to run with primusrun/optirun. I cannot seem to see any options within my BIOS to disable the integrated Intel GPU, is there any way around this to make it purely NVidia?

Re: (EE) Screen 0 deleted because of no matching config section.

I have an Optimus laptop and only use the nVidia card. But you xorg doesn;t look like the one in the Wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA_Optimus

And make sure you read ALL of the Wiki -- about using xrandr to set some things and making that run at startup, etc.

Did you search the Wiki and miss this? You seem to ask a lot of questions about things that are already answered.

I've read all of the Wiki and included xrandr, I also used startx for bug testing with my configuration and fixed some errors which were showing in my /var/log/Xorg.0.log (apologies but I cannot recall them now). What it all boiled down to was me not being able to start the Xorg server due to the error shown in the title. My configuration shown here was the one that I've put together which removes all errors from the one shown in the wiki specifically for my laptop. All I've been requesting in this thread is a pointer as to where a configuration could be looking for "Screen 0" and why it thinks it's not declared. From what I can see, this question has not been answered yet and none of my reading through the Wiki has solved this for me either.

All errors from any Google attempts I've made have pointed to having something similar to: "Device(s) detected, but none match those in the config file." included in the log file. This error would then show the user what exactly it is they've missed, however my error does not include this extra section that allows me to debug. This could either be down to Xorg having had an update or my error is simply different and is an issue which I cannot find the answer to.

Apologies if this specific issue has been answered elsewhere, but I've spent countless hours trying to figure out what exactly it's referring to but cannot debug it. Even with the Arch Wiki and Google at my hands, no good solution has arisen.

Re: (EE) Screen 0 deleted because of no matching config section.

I don't think that "(EE) Screen 0 deleted because of no matching config section" is really an issue. I remember that I've always had this "error" when trying to run everything on the Nvidia card, and still everything worked fine. Your issue might be something different.

EDIT:

Your issues seem to be:
[    53.831] (EE) Failed to initialize GLX extension (Compatible NVIDIA X driver not found)

EDIT 2:

Actually that's only in your 2nd Xorg.0.log.

Thanks for replying! Maybe KDE is failing to load for some odd reason?

/root/.xinitrc

xrandr --setprovideroutputsource modsetting NVIDIA-0
xrandr --auto
exec startkde

This is what I have for starting KDE when X starts, though KDE seems to be loading up just fine using the standard bumblebee setup and SDDM. Maybe I'll play around with it a little more there and see if anything works.

Re: (EE) Screen 0 deleted because of no matching config section.

Hello again @numb3rz!

Did you end up trying out the "solution" I had mentioned in your other thread here?

Basically ends up being what @Lone_Wolf suggested as well.  Blacklisting the modules was key.

I definitely don't see a full blown solution for this just yet with my 970M... but at least it works ok for now.

Mine defaults to Nvidia only and then I have to manually disable the Nvidia with:

sudo modprobe bbswitch

I had to add a few modifications as I describe on that linked post.

BTW... My full battery goes from 2.5hr to 6.5hr estimated when I disable the GPU... So it definitely makes sense to disable the GPU at times if you don't plan on mostly playing games or using 3D modeling applications.

I would keep an eye out for new changes in BumbleBee and also keep an eye out for discussions such as this.

The xorg.conf  tells X that screen 0 is connected through the nvidia driver.
X however sees screen 0 as being connected through the intel card.
The xorg.conf says stuff that doesn't match what X sees >> no matching config section >> screen 0 is deleted .

the xorg.conf created by nvidia-xconfig is faulty.
