[SOLVED] Arch boot is too slow. Windows 10 boots faster.

Hi I'm new, I wrote in this section because I coudn't write on System Administration section.
As said in the title Windows 10 boots faster, almost 6 seconds but Arch takes around 1 minute and sometimes even more.
I don't like Windows, every time I installed it in 3-4 days I would have switched to Arch again.
I tried to follow many guides posted in here but non one of them worked for me (I tried to install rng-tools, haveged, e4rat, tried to change kernel parameters and also tried to enable early kms).
I have an Elitebook 2570p, Intel Core i5-3350M CPU @2.70GHZ, 8GB Ram and 300GB HDD.

I followed this wiki as well and tried to install bootchart too but I had problem with it.

1. You can use systemd's tools to perform an initial analysis. That's the very first section of that page.

2. "but I had a problem with it" is not an error message: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57855

3. The sysadmin board is closed for exactly this reason.

Sorry.
I gave the "systemd-analyze critical-chain and systemd-analyze" and the output are these:

systemd-analyze:

Startup finished in 2.219s (firmware) + 2.378s (loader) + 6.094s (kernel) + 26.745s (userspace) = 37.438s
graphical.target reached after 18.484s in userspace

systemd-analyze critical-chain:

The time when unit became active or started is printed after the "@" character.
The time the unit took to start is printed after the "+" character.
graphical.target @18.484s

                        └─system.slice @2.991s

I also installed bootchart I added "initcall_debug printk.time=y init=/usr/bin/bootchartd2" to the kernel parameters and I enabled it and when I reboot it says:
"Starting bootchart logging
bootchart: no initrd used; starting
[FAILED] Failed to start Collect Bootchart Data."

Re: [SOLVED] Arch boot is too slow. Windows 10 boots faster.

And did you read it?
Do you need lvm2? Otherwise you can just mask the monitor.
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=244699
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=244722
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=233016

Also thermald seems to be slow, so you should inspect its status.

nb. that if windows "boots" in 6 seconds, there's a good chance it doesn't "boot" at all, but hibernates and you *need* to turn that off if you want to run a parallel OS, see 3rd link in my signature.

Also please use code tags when posting shell IO

I've masked lvm2 and removed thermald.
I don't have Windows anymore, only Arch.
I reboot the system and regave the systemd-analyze and systemd-analyze critical-chain and they return:

systemd-analyze

It doesn't look like lvm2-monitor.service has been masked in your latest post. It is still taking quite a massive hit of almost 8 secs.

Probably not…

and removed thermald

Your system boots slow so your solution is to leave its temperature unguarded.
Very clever…

What should I do with bootchart instead?

Look at it? It's just fancy graphics.

The next item to look at would then be networkmanger…

Should I uninstall bootchart too?

Post your critical chain again so we can see if it's been properly masked.
As seth said, bootchart is just fancy graphics and doesn't tell you any new information so yes why not uninstall it.

Ok I've uninstalled bootchart2

Re: [SOLVED] Arch boot is too slow. Windows 10 boots faster.

Yes, but I'd be more concerned that it takes almost 8 seconds until your HDD is ready (in particular the swap device)
Maybe look for errors and fsck's in the journal.

And how should I check? Sorry for bothering you but I can't figure it out

I tried to run fsck /dev/sda2 and it says that if I force the command I'll damage the disk.

/dev/sda2 looks like your swap partition and it looks like it is slow to mount. Can you post your partition scheme? Do you have an entry in fstab to mount this swap partition?

/dev/sda2 looks like your swap partition and it looks like it is slow to mount. Can you post your partition scheme? Do you have an entry in fstab to mount this swap partition?

Yes

Fstab

 # Static information about the filesystems.
# See fstab(5) for details.

# <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
# /dev/sda3
UUID=ac89ab0d-4661-49e0-9974-d4ce498f4501       /               ext4            rw,relatime     0 1

The fstab contains only the entry for the root filesystem.  You said it had an entry for the swap partition.  That is what seth is saying no to.

Have you filtered the journal for one boot only before trying to post it or pipe it to a pastebin?

When I installed the system the fstab configuration contained the swap partition too. I don't know why it's not anymore there.
I don't know how to pipe to a pastebin....how should I do?

Re: [SOLVED] Arch boot is too slow. Windows 10 boots faster.

The link seth pointed you to How to upload textfiles covers piping to a pastebin.  Remember to filter the journal to a single boot.

The last systemd analyze critical chain showed 13 seconds to graphical.target,  from the original systemd analyze an additional 8 seconds was spent in graphical.target,  is 21 seconds roughly accurate for current boot time?

Have you installed/enabled microcode updates ?
Possibly slow boot might be SATA related somehow ?
For me personally Arch has always booted much faster than Windows.
