wifi and ethrnet extreme speed throttling

i use network manager to automatically configure my wired/wireless however my connection experiences extreme throttling when i test mt internet speed through sites or tui tools i get a solid ~80mb/s on download meanwhile when i download an actual file (not necessary a package even from the browser its slow) i can expect 500kb/s on a good day weirdly however sites still load relatively fast downloads suffer

Re: wifi and ethrnet extreme speed throttling

Install iperf3 or ookla-speedtest choose different server and make a constancy test.

With poor routing of ISP are such behaviour hood possible. In which country are you? Have you packet loss with ping to different sites?

Re: wifi and ethrnet extreme speed throttling

Have you rebooted both your router and computer?

No better, then reset your router to the factory default.

Is your router's firmware up to date?

Have you tested your computer on a different network, or with a different router?

Have you tested your computer on different live boot environments?

Here's a script for the various linode servers: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 6#p2017886
Try one to the west and one to the east (Frankfurt and perhaps Bombay?) - and ideally another system in the LAN.

Re: wifi and ethrnet extreme speed throttling

@shaked: Just what I expected. The standard speed test (with multiple connections) misleads you to think your download speed (which is normally a single HTTP(S) or FTP(S) connection) can reach these levels. It can't - your single connection bandwidth is limited.

If you want to verify this, try downloading a file via BitTorrent (which uses multiple connections) - if your chosen download has several BitTorrent peers you will see faster download speeds.

Re: wifi and ethrnet extreme speed throttling

His downloads for the linode testfiles are 200kB and 100kB - that's abysmal and meets the poor windows iso download speed at 460kB - but I also doubt that this has anything to do w/ the wifi and all with his ISP.
@shaked, try downloading from another system in the LAN.

however then i decided to try WSL and this is what i get:

Re: wifi and ethrnet extreme speed throttling

same modem and router

… and some unknown CDN…
The idea was to measure the download from that windows system (or any other) to the archlinux system to test your wifi rather than the internet connection.
Since you've the same problems w/ WSL it's actually even less likely that this has anything to do w/ the wifi - how does the librewolf download perform on the linux system and how fast can windows download http://speedtest.frankfurt.linode.com/1 … nkfurt.bin ?

Re: wifi and ethrnet extreme speed throttling

i dont know how to check the download speed of librewolf because its an aur package as for the windows pc it doesnt accept .bin as a valid way to end the url   404 Not Found nginx  (chrome)
the issue didn't appear immidiatly after installing arch when i installed the desktop enviroment i had ~1mb/s download however i do have an error message relating to bad connection when trying to install some other aur package that used to work for me

Re: wifi and ethrnet extreme speed throttling

You open your browser in linux, navigate to that same webpage and click the same download button. You're not supposed to install any of that, you just want to know how fast you can download that file from that server.

as for the windows pc it doesnt accept .bin as a valid way to end the url   404 Not Found nginx  (chrome)

404 isn't from windows, but the server - it means that you typo'd the url.

And once more: the most important test would be to measure the throughput in the LAN.

you are right it didn't start the download by right clicking on the windows pc so i copy pasted it into the url i now did it properly (inspect element and get the link)

and how fast can windows download http://speedtest.frankfurt.linode.com/1 … nkfurt.bin ?

it downloads pretty slow ~15m eta i think the linode server might be the bottleneck here unfortunatly i dont know how to get the exact properties of the download

Re: wifi and ethrnet extreme speed throttling

The linode server is rather not the bottleneck, but your connection to it (and several other segments on the internet) is.
Maybe we can see where it breaks down:

tracepath speedtest.frankfurt.linode.com

Re: wifi and ethrnet extreme speed throttling

It's not really fast (see the bezeqint.net timeouts) but at least not breaking away.
Try to disable IPv6, see whether that improves your downloads - otherwise tell your ISP that they're worse than vodafone.

disabled IPv6 connection is still miserably low
bezeq -> lightning bolt in the sense of how fast it is lol

Re: wifi and ethrnet extreme speed throttling

www.bezeq.co.il times out for me, I can reach www.bezeqint.net, though (and the www.bezeq.co.il connection is routed through some *.bezeqint.net domains)
Try

wget -O /dev/null www.bezeq.co.il

but I'm more than convinced that this is a routing problem of your ISP.

Re: wifi and ethrnet extreme speed throttling

Yes. It's your ISPs routing (though I can actually reach the co.il on 147.235.244.6 now at 534KB/s)
I'm pretty sure there's no actual problem w/ your WLAN or linux or any problem on your side.
