PCI Network adapter issuess

My on board network controller stopped working after installation. Using an external WLAN adapter still works. Any advice?

Re: PCI Network adapter issuess

My on board network controller stopped working after installation.

What's your metric for that?
It does show up in lspci w/ a module attached.
Does it show up in "ip a"?
Do you have linux-firmware installed?

In doubt please post your complete system journal for the boot:

sudo journalctl -b | curl -F 'f:1=<-' ix.io

Re: PCI Network adapter issuess

Issue has resolved itself after doing a system upgrade.

Issue has somehow unresolved itself. Tried downgrading yesterday's packages, but the issue persists.

The device doesn't show up in ip a, and linux-firmware is installed.

Does it come back after a cold reboot?
Is there a parallel windows installation?

pcie_aspm.policy=powersave

Try

pcie_aspm=off

instead.

I've got the remnants of a windows install on another drive that I didn't bother to clean up cause I don't need the ~100 GiBs it has.

Cold restart doesn't help it either.

What does "remnants" mean?
In doubt see the 3rd link below.
Disable it (it's NOT the BIOS setting!) and reboot windows and linux twice for voodo reasons.

I've used fdisk to remove all the Windows partitions, but didn't bother to do a drive cleaning to replace all the data with junk.

Ok, that's not relevant.
Did you try disbling pcie_aspm?

Re: PCI Network adapter issuess

No idea whether https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=286171 is relevant (different HW), but did you try the LTS kernel?

LTS doesn't seem to be helping it either.

Re: PCI Network adapter issuess

Also, seems to have stopped showing driver in use

This would probably happen w/ the regular kernel and is a result of the chip not responding.

1. Does this happen regardless of external power supply ./. battery
2. Does it help to reload the module later

dmesg -W

and in a second terminal

modprobe -r rtw88_8822be; sleep 5; modprobe -v rtw88_8822be

1) Yeah, seems like
2) Still seems to be getting the same error

Re: PCI Network adapter issuess

114 is EALREADY

modprobe -r rtw88_8822be
lsmod | grep 8822be | make sure it worked
sleep 3
echo 1 > /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:07:00.0/reset
sleep 3

Re: PCI Network adapter issuess

Got this in the second terminal (tried running that line with and without sudo)

bash: /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:07:00.0/reset: Permission denied

and this in the dmesg -W

Re: PCI Network adapter issuess

sudo echo … sudo's the echo, but the shell redirect writes the file.

echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:07:00.0/reset

Re: PCI Network adapter issuess

Great.
Try

echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:07:00.0/remove
sleep 1
echo 1 | sudo tee /sys/bus/pci/rescan

instead of the reset.
You should be prepared to having to reboot the system if this fails badly, so save your documents before and "sudo sync" the filesystems.

If this also doesn't work, blacklist rtw_8822be, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel … probe.d/_2
Don't use the /bin/true or kernel parameter ways, because we want to load the module later.
You might have to rebuild the initramfs after adding the blacklist config.

Then boot, make sure "lsmod | grep 8822be" doesn't show the module and "modprobe -v rtw_8822be" it, pay attention to the dmesg tail again.

Re: PCI Network adapter issuess

remove/reset didn't work either

blacklist works for stopping the module during boot, modprobe -v is still giving the same error
