hello,
since the upgrade from util-linux from 2.39 to 2.40 i keep getting this warning in journal when booting up my system.
everything (seems) working, no failed units, but i'm just trying to understand if there's something wrong.
tried searching online but didn't end well.
someone can help me diagnose the problem?
linux-zen 6.8.2-zen2-1-zen
systemd 255.4-2
util-linux 2.40-1
thanks

Unsetting CREDENTIALS_DIRECTORY in the service environment should silence that but not change anything about the behavior, so not much to worry here.

Hi. I have the same issue. But it breaks login, when using pam_ecryptfs. I am trying to configure it on new system. Still no resolution

Have you tried to unset the CREDENTIALS_DIRECTORY Environment in the agetty service?

ssh also not working

ssh will likely be subject to the same pam_encryptfs but won't get you an agetty warning?

Most often, cold boot, this issue is freezing the whole kernel.
SysRq + b can't even reboot PC

It's rather unlikely that this causes a kernel panic, it might be the last thing you see but that'd be coincidental.
Does unsetting CREDENTIALS_DIRECTORY reliably prevent the panic?
