Re: [SOLVED] Issue with 4k monitor and Intel Arch - 5120x1440 refused

Sorry for the late replay, I had to pause the investigation.

I don't know about the patch to be honest: I haven't find how to apply it and so I finally haven't tried it.
Howerver I tested with the new kernel version (6.13), a new HDMI cable, and by disabling my laptop screen: nothing worked.

I'm still stuck with it and I have no clue about what to look for. Excepted the patch that I don't know how to apply I don't know what I could try.

Thank you for your help !! This one did the job !

Just to avoid staying clueless: do you have any idea how this repository works ? Will the patch be released in the main kernel later on, or not at all ?

Anyway, thanks again for your patience and help on this. I'm really glad we finally got it working ! smile

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with 4k monitor and Intel Arch - 5120x1440 refused

The repo has the latest drm patches, if they don't cause regressions, they'll eventuall enter the mainline kernel (or hopefully be fixed and then enter the mainline kernel)
You can keep that kernel installed in parallel and every now and then check in w/ the main kernel from the repos to see whether the patch has entered it (ie. your HW works as in drm-tip)

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with 4k monitor and Intel Arch - 5120x1440 refused

I keep having a problem with my 4k monitor only wanting to run on 2k.  It's a dell with one analog VGA port and two DisplayPorts.  I use the DisplayPorts with a HDMI apater.  I have been able to get both screens running at the same time with 4k on one and 1080p on the other,  but not consistently.

Strangely, xrandr shows DP1,DP2, HDMI1, HDMI2.  So I guess if  I use DisplayPort on both ends, it would be using DP1 or DP2.  But when I use the HDMI adapter, it shows HDMI1, or HDMI2 as connected.

I have gotten 4k, but intermittently, it wants to run at 2k.  I usually run linux-rt, but when I switched to linux stock, all it would give me is unknown connector at 1024x768,   I've tried switching ports and cables and adapters.  Even only runs one screen while booting up before I even get to X.  So I don't know if it's just because it's a dell that I'm having a problem or something is wonky in the kernel.

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with 4k monitor and Intel Arch - 5120x1440 refused

The "unknown" monitor means you're running on the simpledrm device, a huge red flag in your descritption is "adapter", but to tell you anything more we'd need to see xorg log and ideally "xrandr --verbose"

Do you also have an intel Arc A580 chip?

My /var/log/Xorg.0.log is old, so I have to peruse the one in ~/.local/share/xorg/Xorg.0.log

lspci says it is a intel xeon e3-1200. I guess that is for all onboard video outputs on a single chip?  I don't think analog VGA goes up to 4k, but maybe someone else knows?

Xorg says it is HD 2500 intel graphics.

The modelines for 4k are in the xorg.log, but it says it's going to framebuffer to 2048x1152 instead of 3840x2160.  And xrandr doesn't show the 4k modeline, only 2048x1152 as the highest, and I have to xrandr --ouput --mode in order to get it to do that because it selects a lower resolution than that.

I suspect that the DP<->HDMI conversion adapter probably doesn't help any.  Plug it straight through HDMI on another computer and the screen works as expected.

And there are times when the screen just doesn't come back from sleeping.  Have to reboot for whatever the reason is.  I think it may have to do with the webbrowser (firefox or brave doesn't seem to matter), just hibernates and never wakes back up.

You can also test the drm-tip kernel, if it's the same problem, the same solution will apply.

xrandr --verbose won't show all the modelines including the 4k.  But here's a strange one, the resolution it picks is not even in the modelines, only in xrandr.
xrandr --verbose

Re: [SOLVED] Issue with 4k monitor and Intel Arch - 5120x1440 refused

Start by removing xf86-video-intel.
If you for some reason want to keep using it, at least use the proper DRI, https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Intel_ … ecent_GPUs

The output runs at 53% of the (only) advertised 3840x2160 - do you somehow scale the output?
