Unable to get nvidia working correctly with my device.

I am currently using Hyprland, and I have tried my best to follow the Hyprland wiki, but it feels like I am jumping through so many hoops that I keep getting lost.

I have tried the NVIDIA wiki page: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA … de_setting.
But the DKMS instructions just don't do anything on my laptop.

I have tried different Nvidia packages, but to no avail, as after writing MODULES=(i915 nvidia nvidia_modeset nvidia_uvm nvidia_drm ...), those nvidia modules are unrecognised.

I am truly lost, and every time I click on what seems to be a new fix on the wiki, it takes me down a completely new path.

I have a Alienware X16 R1 if that helps, with an RTX 4070 and Intel processor.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I can provide info for whatever anyone needs.

Re: Unable to get nvidia working correctly with my device.

What, exactly, did you install and what kernel are you using?

Also see https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57855
Do not tell us things like "those nvidia modules are unrecognised", post full, exact errors.

Re: Unable to get nvidia working correctly with my device.

So I used archinstall and selected Hyprland with polkit, I also selected to download all drivers as I wasn't sure which drivers to install as I have both Intel and Nvidia devices. As for the kernel, I am using linux. I also installed nvidia and nvidia-utils, then tried nvidia-dkms, and now back to nvidia. I believe that is everything, though I am not sure how to check for sure.

Re: Unable to get nvidia working correctly with my device.

OK, so you have 'linux' and 'nvidia', which is fine. What's the problem?

Re: Unable to get nvidia working correctly with my device.

Well the issue is that I want my monitor to be recognised as 240hz, as that is the available refresh rate, however, it cannot be recognised. I read online that this is usually due to the display being controlled by the iGPU, and not the graphics card, so I want the graphics card to drive the monitor, but it doesnt seem to want to.

Oh, so you're running into https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=310035

This is why it's critical to calmly state the issue and actual packages, versions, and logs rather than freaking out.

Re: Unable to get nvidia working correctly with my device.

That is fair enough. I have been trying to fix this for the past 3 days, and I ended up having to reinstall arch 4 seperate times. This is my first post, so I will try to be more conscious of the formalities next time. I will try the other post's fix and update this post as necessary.

Re: Unable to get nvidia working correctly with my device.

So I am reading through the comments, and it does not seem like they were able to find a solution and sent a ticket to nvidia. Should I wait for an update on that post?

Re: Unable to get nvidia working correctly with my device.

The solution, for now, is downgrading the driver, but that requires using the dkms version, so if you choose that method, make sure to read up on how dkms works.
