Hi All,

Could we please have arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc available as an installable package? This toolchain is essential for supporting ARMv7 devices running Linux, such as Raspberry Pi 2/3 in 32‑bit mode, BeagleBone boards, and other embedded Linux platforms.

Nothing failed in that arm-linux-gnueabihf-linux-api-headers build in the github gist. The package built, and was installed.

FTR, it's unlikely that this toolchain will be added tot the official repos, as the hardware is EOL.

So far we've seen arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc-stage2 failing to build for lack of arm-linux-gnueabihf-glibc-headers and arm-linux-gnueabihf-glibc-headers failing to build for lack of arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc-stage1 but no effort to build that.
You need to start w/ arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc-stage1 then build arm-linux-gnueabihf-glibc-headers and ultimately arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc-stage2 - clean chroot or not.

use existing packages instead

You need to point pacman at the locally built package and use the -U option.

arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc-bin is still an AUR package and you install it like any other AUR package; you just don't have to compile anything if you trust the origin of the precompiled binary.

I somewhat smell a lot of missing knowledge about proper use of packages and the AUR, aside from at leastionable reasons about "Why at all?"
if you have some old hardware and try to follow as equal old guides maybe Arch as rolling release distro isn't the best choice

I, too, had to setup a vm using Arch Archive to setup a system from Feb 2022 to build a uefi firmware for my sbc which, too, was long eol at that time (it ended up me having to buy an spi flasher to write back a working firmware after i flashed a bad one)

maybe using something like a debian from 2022 (or from when the last stable around that time was) in a vm is a better support playground

unfortunate C is a quite volatile language - so code that worked years ago might not work anymore today - hence you either have to update the code - or revert the environment
for a project you actively maintain just update might be possible - but in this case setup an older environment seems the simpler option
