This is an odd hack I stumbled upon while talking to im_ka on irc. As most people know, on irc you can run a /whois command and next to your name it gives you information specific to your connection (I don't know the actual name of this information). But what I found was that putting that into your /etc/hosts speeds up your internet for myself, and others who tested this. On irc the command and output looks like this:
/whois lavapunk
lavapunk [~lavapunk@c-24-21-127-66.client.comcast.net]
-!- ircname : Unknown
-!- channels : #archlinuxAnd so I put "lavapunk@c-24-21-127-66.client.comcast.net" into my /etc/hosts so that it now looks like this:
#<ip-address> <hostname.domain.org> <hostname>
127.0.0.1 lavapunk@c-24-21-127-66.client.comcast.net localhostWhile it sounds odd this really seems to speed up your internet... feedback would be appreciated.

Well yes, but if you have a static ip it works great... or if you don't mind changing it back the day it stops working ![]()
For me, comcast hardly ever (if ever) changes my ip so it will likely work like a charm. But I havn't tested it over a prolonged period.
