Why kdebase and kdelibs take so much space?
Offline
oops sorry, libs/pimlibs/base are built with !strip, for full debugging effect.

will you leave it like that or will you change it?
Offline
it stays like that.

Thanks for all your hardwork. Just installed. Got dbus error after login, but still kde loads. It's seems even slower than the previous betas, but I am enjoying seeing the progress. Is the kicker supposed to be empty besides the clock?
Offline
yes, kicker will completely be replaced. if you're looking for a temporary menu install kickoff (search for it).
Offline
Thanks....but I already uninstalled, it was too slow for even testing reasons and still a lot of frequent crashings, but none-the-less much progress over previous beta.
Thanks again for building these pkgs and allowing us to have a peak.

Hmm... the previous version worked quite well for me. This one, however, does not properly display window borders, window contents, menus, or kicker. - Nothing but a few dark shadows on white background is displayed. Maybe I am missing something?

Yes, kwin is automatically trying to use composite, which doesn't work well with your card. Best bet is to disable it. You'll have to edit your /home/user/.kde/share/config/kwinrc file for that. Here's mine:

Thanks, tardo, that worked!

Yes,

is indeed enough. Your settings are nice, though.

installed kde4 using virtualbox , but try to login but a got a message:

but:
/etc/rc.d/dbus start
/etc/rc.d/hal start
ideas ???
sorry for my english...
Offline
how are you starting kde?
Offline
bump for x64 versions.
Offline
kdegraphics4-3.94.0-3-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz is broken. Both size and MD5 are wrong.
Offline
how are you starting kde?
*startkde
*/opt/kde4/bin/kdm
*startx
always the same error, after login with user/pass got a blank message: could not start dbus, check your installation. and then start the splashscreen of kde4.
sorry for my english...
Offline
@tanis: fixed
@Cipher: you should only need startkde. if you want to use startx, add 'startkde' to ~/.xinit and comment everything else, then run startx.
Offline
Cipher: add this to your .bashrc file:
export PATH=/opt/kde4/bin:/opt/qt4/bin:$PATH
tardo: thanks
But still... I am disappointed. I wouldn't call it "beta". More like "developer preview"

why the kdebase4-3.94.0-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz is so big?
The kdebase-3.94.0.tar.bz2 is only 59,186 KB.

Scroll up and learn reading.

is the version on the repo beta 3 and is it any better ?
id really like to give it a shot but I dont wanna mess everything up .. i actually recently had problems and had to reinstall everything from scratch twice; .......... i dont wanna do that again. however if I can put my machine to the test, id be happy to submit bug reports to the kde4 developers - granted that when Im done, i can just pacman -U and go back to normal. Is this possible ?

Yes it is beta3. You can do
pacman -S kde4
This installs the kde4 group. This will install everything necessary.
To remove it you can remove the group.
pacman -Rc kde4
The no longer needed dependencies can be removed with a script I made: http://noneus.de/downloads/arch-scripts … orphans.sh
