Hello,
I installed eveyrthing according to the beginner's guide, then
got into some problems when connect to my router. Here are something I got
err, eth0: timed out
warn, eth0: using IP$LL address 169.254.122.53
I have made sure the router at it's default settings
all wires connected well
indeed the router shows the wires are fine
WinXP can also connect well
Heard from other that it may be prob with Realtek driver, but for my ethernet no driver can be found on realtek's web (it's integrated into kernel)
I 'm wondering are there something wrong within??
Thanks for your help!!

You sure you only have one eth device?
ifconfig -a
Try this, install ethtool and run it:
ethtool eth0
See if "Link detected:" is yes or no. If no, then it means you aren't plugged in, wire is bad, or something similar.
What is your subnet? 192.168.x.x? I'll assume it's 192.168.0.x.
Try just forcing your card to an ip on your subnet. E.g.: ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.123
Then, try pinging your router. (most likely 192.168.0.1, so `ping 192.168.0.1`)
If it is a driver issue, it should have failed by this point.
