Mail server issues

Well, as much as I hate to admit it, I find myself in need of the community's help. tongue

I'm in the process of rebuilding my server, and I find myself at a loss when it comes to one thing... the mail server. Sad as it may be, I've actually never built a *NIX mail server before, and no matter what I do I keep coming up short. So... here's what I need...

SMTP/MTA - probably postfix
IMAP/POP - presumably dovecot
SPAM filtering - spamassassin/postgrey/whatever
AV - clamav? (is this even necessary? I don't deal with many windows clients anymore...)

Am I missing anything... I don't think so, but if you disagree, please let me know. Anyone with experience setting up mail servers, help would be most appreciated.

(And to answer the inevitable question, yes, I've checked the wiki, and yes, I've checked with our good friend Google... learned a lot, but not quite enough...)

Re: Mail server issues

I used this guide for my home mail server (I skipped the SpamAssassin and ClamAV parts):
http://www.linux.com/feature/146613

This one might help you with the Spam and AV parts:

And my first ever mail server was in a corporate environment, I used this site. That was about 2 years ago, and that mail server is still going strong even though I don't work there anymore and they haven't replaced me hmm

I skipped the SpamAssassin part so I can't comment on that (we had a separate spam filter on the perimeter)

Good luck, mail servers are fun big_smile
