Scrotwm is a small dynamic tiling window manager for X11. It tries to stay out of the way so that valuable screen real estate can be used for much more important stuff. It has sane defaults and does not require one to learn a language to do any configuration. It was written by hackers for hackers and it strives to be small, compact and fast.

Any features that sets it apart ? other than simple configuration file?
Offline
It doesn't work right with dual screen.
Sane defaults don't exist, is it not possible to change keys?

The first time I read it....I read scrotum HAHAHHAHA
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Ooh, definitely gonna try this one

Anyone but me getting this all the time: "ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/X11R6/lib/swmhack.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored." ?
Offline
I have installed this as well, and am getting the same error as above.
However, I have traced it to a library in the source that failed to build.
The AUR build only builds below the /linux dir, and that does not include the hack, which resides in a dir called /lib above it, i suspects its a BSD specific hack.
It claims that the makefile for swmhack.so is missing a seperator, but I have cured this simply by adding a tabbed space before the first include line. After that, it complains that "commands commence before first target". This is because the makefile is a BSD one, not a GNU Make one.
Also, if you look at the error, its goes looking for the hack in /usr/X11R6/lib -- this directory no longer exists on Linux xorg systems. I believe (correct me if i'm wrong) that *BSD systems still use the original XFree86, not XOrg, so this hack is needed for that system, not linux systems. So scrotwm needs to be hacked so that it does not go looking for the hack on Linux/Xorg systems.

Marco released 0.8 yesterday.
More tiling features, better dual monitor support.
Still getting the smhack.so error.
Builds fine on openbsd (obviously).
Both authors are OpenBSD hackers as in one of the main xmonad devs btw.
Probably switching to to scrotwm.

Not that it matters, but Peereboom, McBride do not appear to have any patches in their names in xmonad; or did you mean something else?

should read "as is one of the main xmonad"
Neither Marco or Ryan are working on xmonad, another openbsd user is one of the two core devs (Don).

It's looking good! I might come back to it when it's matured a bit more!

I'm not trying to be a negative Nancy here (just because I don't care for tiling WMs doesn't mean I don't wish this project luck), but there is already wmii, dwm, awesome, xmonad, stumpwm, Ion3, and ratpoison. What is the advantage to using Scrotwm compared to those? I understand that the configuration file doesn't require programming knowledge, but don't most tiling WM users program as well?

where are my keybindings ?

Thanks for the link. Some interesting stuff there.
Looks as if Don is doing a good amount now on arch?
OT: Noticed that xmonad on OpenBSD has almost now dependencies, notably not ghc - where as arch install ghc. Not a biggy, just wondering why.
Sticking with xmonad now, but keeping my eye on srotwm.

The more the merrier! Let the WMs proliferate!
You wouldn't say that since there's been lots of movies made, or songs composed, or novels written, that therefore there's no longer any point in pursuing creative endeavors. I think the same basic idea applies here. Variety is also freedom, and it makes things interesting when you're bored and want to try something new.
