Hi!
I just upgraded to 2.6.30 and now i get kernel panic after about 30seconds after it's done booting.
Running on a LG X110.
I also use encrypted filesystems if that has anything to do with it, but otherwise it's quite clean (installed it yesterday and it worked fine on the old kernel).
After a few seconds after boot i get: Kernel panic - not syncing: stack-protector: Kernel stack is corrupted in: c033c9dd
Latest changes with pacman:
removed portmap, rt2500
upgraded rt2500, kernel26-firmware, kernel26, rpcbind, madwifi, ndiswrapper, nfs-utils, tiacx
installed librpcsecgss
Anyone have a guess?
Edit: Just downgraded kernel26 and kernel26-firmware to 2.6.29 again and it works fine again, anyone knows why 2.6.30 breaks my system?

Can you tell what you did? How do you downgrade?
I am having the same problem.
Please I am stuck. I need to back out.

If you haven't cleaned up old packaged, you can find them in /var/cache/pacman/pkg.
Downgrade by running (as i did, you have to replace the filename to what you have): pacman -Ud kernel26-firmware-2.6.29-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz kernel26-2.6.29.4-i686.pkg.tar.gz
There's a guide here for more help and also some mirrors where you can download old packages if you haven't saved yours: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Downgrade_packages
edit: and ofc, first, boot up with a bootcd/usb/whatever, chroot to your root-directory and then run the commands above since you probably wont have time to do this before your computer hangs unless it's really fast ...

I think it has to do with wicd and the mouse movement. If I start my system without moving the mouse it works. Moving the mouse gives me a kernel panic. Disabling wicd or starting it after X has started (or any other system that handles the mouse like gpm for example in console) the system starts without kernel panic.
Can someone verify?

FWIW, I have encrypted partitions and upgrading to .30 caused no problems so I don't think it's crypt that's the problem.

I think it has to do with wicd.
I start my sistem and everything works fine till I try to connect to wireless via wicd. When do so, all sistem freeze, and y have to unplug my laptop, reset button doesn't work either.
If i don't use wicd all goes fine... ¿Any ideas?

Those of you that suspect wicd, which wireless cards do you have?
Maybe it's a problem in the driver.
Here I'm using wicd and the following card and I have no problems

I get the same error when I attach a certain usb device (a x10-rf receiver with lirc and lirc_atiusb modules). Wonder if this might be an issue with some usb devices in general ?
Offline
It has to be usb and wicd (wireless in general) related issue.
I changed my usb mouse 15d9:0a33 with another usb 046d:c51a mouse. Everything works.
If I start my pc without any usb mouse or with a ps2 mouse only I have a kernel panic. It only starts with the second mouse attached.
It always starts fine if my usb wireless is removed or wicd is turned off.
I believe that when the kernel tries to communicate with a pointing device wile wireless is active it crashes.

Don't think "wireless" has anything to do with it "per se". I don't have any wireless cards/modules active at all. I am guessing certain usb devices in general trigger the error, see this report here with an usb tv card: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/374387

Also just experienced a kernel panic on my arch, it's been running for a few hours though, and it was the first problem since the upgrade yesterday. Odd. The other box has had no problems yet.

WOW, Thank you All
I was freaking out... just a bit I am making a full backup right after I post this....
Ya, I was getting that kernel panic like right after I login. I would start typing startx and only get to
star(Kernel Panic bla bla bla)
I just booting into a live Ubuntu and then !banged out the wicd in the Daemons array. Viola ! It works no panic.

Same issue here with fresh install on an old Thinkpad 570. No wireless cards. Was working fine when I installed a few weeks ago- just did a fresh install on a bigger HDD and now it's broken.
Mine happens when Loading UDev uevents on boot.

I've noticed that kernel panics related to my wifi, started just after upgrade and install this packages:
removed portmap (6.0-4)
installed libtirpc (0.2.0-1)
installed rpcbind (0.2.0-1)
upgraded fam (2.7.0-12 -> 2.7.0-14)
Any clue??

It is wicd. No problem at all when wireless is disabled at bootup using fn keys. As soon as I hit refressh in wicd-ncurses,
Kernel panic: not syncing: stack-rpotector: kernel stack in corrupted in c033c9dd.
I am not using a usb wifi card. Downgrading to kernel .29 fixes it.

For me it happens with wicd uninstalled. When any program tries to initialize and use the usb wireless will trigger a kernel panic in combination with my mouse. Also user with no wireless face kernel panic with their usb devices.

It seems to be a problem with my wireless card and new kernel. A bug is reported. So, meanwhile, I've downgrade to .29. That fixed the problem by now.
