Building a pacman package repository

Hi, i want to build a pacman package repository, and for that i want to buy a server, but i dont want to spend a lot of money, so i need your advices.

Im obviously need a large HD, i know that.
But what about RAM and CPU? This PC will be only intended to this, so what minimun requisits must have?

What kind of repository? Your own repo with just a few packages, or a full mirror of core, extra and community?

I think you'll find disk space isn't as important as you think. Core, extra and community are less than 30gb for both i686 and x86_64.

Well that will fit in less then 30gb... Network Bandwidth will be the issue if you're planning on making it public.

It's just serving out data, so anything recent should do. Depends if you want it to do anything else too. Are you going to serve FTP and HTTP or just FTP etc

Great! currently only a FTP server will be needed... but maybe HTTP would be cool too....
I have an old PC with:
64 RAM
1 Ghz
Do you think that this PC can handle FTP & HTTP, or only FTP?

Should be able to, especially for only a few users... Are you intending on making it public? What kind of connection do you have? (Which will influence how many people use your repo, and if it get accepted as 'official')

EDIT: 64mb RAM is a bit low, even for Arch... But if you can get Arch running with that, then you should be fine. I'd up it to at least 128mb if you can.

As long as the thing is headless and file serving is all it does 64 MB RAM should be ok (albeit a bit on the small side).

You still haven't told us if you're talking about and internal / private or public mirror...? Bandwidth is still going to be the issue if you're making it public.

Then it should be fine, with the possibility of the RAM being a bit on the small side
