Is SASL a modular feature? If so you may want to submit a feature request for SASL support through the bug tracker. That way you do not have to compiole each time the maintainer can

True but if it is a modular feature it may not hurt to have it there ... it was just a suggestion.

It's not modular. It becomes a dependency once you compile it in.
