Setting up Gufw and name resolving

I'm using ufw and gufw to configure my firewall on my Arch64 machine. I have an external 1 TB network drive (ntfs formatted) I store on via smb (part of windows network). When the firewall is running I can't see the drive for some reason unless I type in the IP address directly. I know this to do with not being allowed to resolve DNS but how I set that with gufw or ufw?

Regards

André

You probably can't see the drive, because your firewall (ufw) is blocking the connection. Have you already opened up your ports for samba?

Yes, that I did 137-139 and 445. So I don't understand why it doesn't show up.

Well, you're saying it's a problem with resolving DNS. Maybe you need to open that specific port (I believe it's port 53 TCP/UDP)?

Correct -- make sure you do both UDP and TCP for DNS resolution/

Also, you may need port 135 for MS smb/cifs IIRC...?
