You must make sure that grub supports it too

Wouldn't a separate /boot formatted as ext2 (or another filesystem GRUB supports) fix that?

Yes no bootloader supports btrfs out of the box right now. You need an extra /boot for it.
As said if btrfs is used for / you need to format the partition you need and use it as mountpoint.
If you use fancy mounting like subdomains etc. it will not work, then you need to mount everything by hand to /tmp/install.
You need to tweak imknitcpio.conf too for getting the crc32 modules in there too else it should work just fine.
I plan btrfs support for next release so stay tuned for next release in next weeks.

Shouldn't LILO work fine with btrfs?

Hrm if you want to try with lilo go ahead, i'm happy about any feedback before writing btrfs support.
In theory i would say lilo could work because it doesn't know anything about filesystems.

Can u put "Set up Network" before clock setting .
as in official install disk. So time sync can go right.
Just a suggestion , it's convinent this way.

venky it has the utils in the ramfs, you need to configure your system correct.
The installer itself doesn't know anything about btrfs.
You can create filesystem in a separate console.
You need to adjust initcpio.conf and fstab correct and use a bootloader that boot from a none btrfs filesystem.

FWIW, with this image I've been able to boot my encrypted eeepc, unlock the rootvolume, backup the rootfs, format the rootfs as btrfs, restore from the backup just created.
All is fine so far. Many thanks!

thank you very much tpowa !
that release was very helpful in getting my Arch System to run (the official 2009.08 liveCD wouldn't work since 2.6.30 doesn't support my network adapter)

guess, what i say, when it's ready, at the moment i'm fighting with some changes i made to setup code.
New image will contain:
- some lvm/grub2 fixes
- some more device listing fixes(for some uncommon devices, like cciss, ida,rd and mmcblk)
- automatic activation of complex devices in setup (eg. lvm, raid, dmraid)
-Packages are frozen and will include:
bump lts kernel to 2.6.32 series, kernel .2.6.34
Delayed for next release:
- btrfs integration
so I hope I get this done in next 2 days, I cannot promise anything though.
