Went through the barrage of updates I missed over the last 3 weeks and got things back to normal. Unfortunately, when I add music to my music directory and try to update using mpc, MPD shuts down without warning.
dmesg gives me
mpd[5997] segfault at 11 ip 0000000000416538 sp 00007fe3d3960758 error 4 in mpd[400000+58000]
If I try 'mpd --create-db' I get
log: problem opening log file "/home/mpd/mpd.log" (config line 28) for writing
even though that directory has mpd as its full owner. MPD doesn't crash after that, however.
Any idea where I could start to tackle this? Maybe I'm missing an update? Thanks!

You're not the only one experiencing this kind of behaviour, unfortunately .

I'm experiencing the same issue. MPD starts, does something, and about two seconds from starting (no matter if it creates database or not) it segfaults. Log entries are similar to what virati posted.

As B suggested, see if the link he mentioned helps you in any way
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

It didn't at the time of writing but now it does. ffmpeg was a culprit in my case, downgrading fixed the issue.

Please submit a bug report if someone else hasn't done it yet . Downgrading may be a temporary (and personal) solution but that doesn't help the community as a whole.
