Make an ISO image with FreeDOS, the BIOS ROM, and the flashing utility, and burn it. Alternatively use a USB stick. Boot from the CD or stick and run the flashing utility from FreeDOS.
(Apologies for the vagueness, I last did this about a year ago and forget exactly what it entails.)
But yeah, flashing BIOS from within Linux is really not recommended last I checked. Most manufacturers provide a DOS flashing utility, and AFAIK that's the way to go; especially with laptops.

Something I did a few months ago. I wrote up the wiki article as well. Maybe it will help you out.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

It's worth adding that for older Dell machines, like mine optiplex 9020, there is yet another, easy way to flash the bios (since `fwupdmgr` does not support that platform).
Download the bios from dell `www.dell.com/support/drivers`, then take a dos-compatible pendrive (FAT32 e.g.), write the `bios_file.exe` to the stick, reboot and press F12 to enter `one-time-boot` menu.
Then - one of the options there is a "flashing tool", that requires just the `bios_file.exe` to be present on the usb stick. If the tool does not see the usb stick, you may try to create a `FAT-16` partition there and flag it with `boot` (e.g. with gparted or partitionmanager).

Holy necrobump, Batman!
As the antediluvian OP refers to ASUS I would note that BIOS updates can be copied to the EFI system partition and run directly from the BIOS menus with their "Easy Flash" utility. It's very nice.

Closing this old topic.
Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.
clean chroot building not flexible enough ?
Try clean chroot manager by graysky
