Sharing Connection

Ok I've tried to search for this, but I don't even know what to search for really.

I have 1 desktop with 2 network cards.
1 is wlan0 which is recieving a connection from my router
2 is eth0 which isnt doing anything at all.

I have 1 laptop with no wireless card and 1 eth0.

What I want to know is if there is some way to bridge wlan0 and eth0 on desktop so that I can run a cable from the laptops eth0 to the desktops eth0 and get a connection?

I've search around on making a dhcp server and bridging my connections, but I havnt found anything so far that applies to my situation, that I could tell.

Sorry for the ignorance, Im in no way adept at networking.

As described in the wiki article, a static configuration is more appropriate for such a simple setup.

I've had exactly the same problem a few days ago.

Following the link on the wiki jakobm provided you, the process is straight forward. Just consider the name of the cards of course, and use logic, always.

And, if you still want to setup a dhcp server, it is recommended that you read this link: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/DHCP/x369.html

It would arguably be simple to create an actual bridge between the 2 cards, then your laptop can talk directly to the router rather than having your desktop act as a second router.

Not sure if things have changed, but the last time I looked into that (admittedly a year or so ago) it wasn't really possible to actually bridge wlan and eth cards. My faintly-remembered Networking classes are something about level 2 or level 3 being incompatible.... OP would need to do his own research though.

You may well be correct... I've never tried it.
