I have just noticed that the root mailbox (/var/spool/mail/root) is missing on my workstation, although I can clearly remember receiving error messages from cron there, some time ago...
I heard from some debian users that mailboxes can be removed (if empty) when postfix is updated. Is this possible?.. Thx.

Yes, you're right. That was an ignorant question ![]()
The problem was that by default our "BSD mailx" deletes the mailbox, after all messages were moved to $HOME/mbox...
