Before anyone asks, I have in fact read the Powerpill wiki page -- and searched the forum. The wiki doesn't say how to execute/install the contents of the provided tarball, which suggests that it is very simple. I looked inside it, and it looks like a script, but setting its execution bit doesn't seem to do anything. I'm missing something obvious, of course, but damned if I know what it is. It was so easy a year ago; all I had to do was use pacman to install it.

Did you know that Powerpill is not being developed and it does not work with pacman anymore?
Wiki page on powerpill, first paragraph:
Warning: Powerpill development has been officially discontinued: its latest version does not work with pacman>=3.5.
Related to your question, unpack the tarball, and makepkg. That will build the package guided by the PKGBUILD file
Best Testing Repo Warning: [testing] means it can eat you hamster, catch fire and you should keep it away from children. And I'm serious here, it's not an April 1st joke.

If you searched the forums, you would find these threads :

and subsequently this : https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=115660&p=1
EDIT : too late !!

There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Actually I did see the warning. I have an older vbox Arch guest I pulled out of cold storage that doesn't have powerpill that I wanted to use it with, because I loved that tool. As for the rest, my searchfu is obviously weak: I put in "installing powerpill" and the mentioned threads did not come up for me, but thanks for the heads-up. Ah...makepkg; that makes sense -- I was trying make install or some such...
/bows head in shame...
But thanks for the very quick responses!
