can anyone advise what to use for a basic ftp server for about 10 users with different passwords.
also some pointers on how to set it up would be nice.
i`ve installed vsftpd with pacman but not having much luck setting it up
trouble is i`m too used to using gui`s in windows, so i don`t suppose there is a gui for linux is there?
i`ve now got proftpd running and i have done a basic setup and i can connect to it. can anyone advise how to setup as mentioned above with mutiple user accounts plz
google should help you, or the proftpd webpage, or "man proftpd" or something similair.
I successfuly use vsftpd on a production server (& AL mirror) at ftp.kegep.tuc.gr so I can recommend it. You just need to change the line "disable = yes" to "disable = on" in /etc/xinetd.d/vsftpd and start xinetd. Check also 'man vsftpd.conf' for configuration options.
Proftpd is easier to setup & I was using it on my debian woody server for a long time, but vsftpd is more secure IMHO (proftpd had 2 advisories lately, plus redhat.com & openbsd.org use vsftpd ) & more advanced.
I can send you some conf files if you want, send me your e-mail via pm for that.
boop - check out gproftpd, i have it in my TUR. GUI for proftpd and it kicks a fair amount of ass.
thanks for the help guys
